I have been a full time Internet Marketing Consultant for about 7 years now.

Oh the things I have seen in that time that have been done in the name of marketing!

  • Scams!
  • Arrogant Twerps that wouldn't know good marketing if you slapped them in the head with it…
  • Snake Oil Salesmen…
  • Blatant Liars!

And in amongst it all - some of the most honest, hard working, show-me-the-money, genuine 'experts' I have ever met in my entire life.

These days I am focusing on helping business owners get a website that brings home the bacon.

To be honest, it'sreally quite easy if you know what you are doing (which most so-called Internet marketing consultants don't!) and are willing to think outside the square.

With That in Mind Lets Look At 8 Vital Things Your Internet Marketing Consultant Needs to Offer

1. They Need to Have An Authority Site. Simply having a great sales letter alone just isn't enough anymore. What about their main site?

Does it offer heaps of quality information?

Does it make you want to stop and hit the 'Add to Favorites' button?

2. They Should Offer YOU the Opportunity to Own and Authority Site Yourself! If there is one thing I am utterly and totally convinced about in relation to Internet marketing it is this: The days of the static website are over.

Now you might not know "web2.0" from a bicycle pump but trust me, if your Internet marketing consultant doesn't mention it as though it was 'the greatest thing since sliced bread' then they are about to build you a site that will end up lost like a tiny needle in a giant cyber-haystack! (Not to mention being as exciting as chloroform in print).
3. They Should Create Web Videos to Promote Your Site and Build Your List and Include These as a Standard Part of Their Service. If you want to see a couple of examples - take a look at www.BrisbaneBusinessBlog.com or

4. They Need to Understand Direct Response Marketing. In fact a good Internet marketing consultant will understsnd it like the back of their hands. But more than that - they need to be able to do more than just talk about it - they need to be able to SHOW you the results in their own business! (Sub-standard consultants can proceed to burn me in effigy
now).

Hey don't forget that it is YOUR business that is at stake - why in the world would you even consider hiring someone that hasn't 'done the stuff' in his or her own business?

Besides, nothing really separates the men from the boys (or the Women from the girls) more than saying to someone; "Here's a novel idea - BEFORE I tun you loose on my own company - hows about you show me what you have done in your own business first?"

5. They Need to Give You a Step-by-Step Marketing Plan. I have lost count of the people I have met that have paid an arm and a leg to a so called consultant that didn't even stop to ask them "How will what we're doing here fit in with the rest of your marketing program?"

Now - don't get me wrong - I am an Internet marketer from the top of my head to the soles of my feet but I also realize that people have a life off line and that your marketing - read this next statement VERY slowly… Your marketing - even your off line marketing needs to compliment every other aspect of your business.

6. They Need to Understand Essential Things Like: 'Squeeze-Pages' 'Joint Ventures' 'Viral Marketing' 'List Building' and 'ROI" (Return on Investment). Now - YOU might not have a clue what these things mean (and that's quite alright) but take it from me, if your Internet marketing consultant cannot explain each of these in simple, easy-to-understand english then you need to keep searching until you find one that can.

7. Money! Your Internet Marketing Consultant Needs to Help You Make More Money!
Now isn't THAT a strange twist! The job of your Internet marketing consultant job is not simply to make you look good or to help them win some peer-decided award but to add bottom line net profits to your business.

I know it isn't the done thing but I seriously think you need to ask them: "So tell me John, how will hiring you help me make more money?"

Trust me if they know their stuff, they'll LOVE this question and tell you the answer(s) in the blink of and eye!

  • The right Internet marketing consultant can help you make a small fortune.
  • They can save you money, time and stress.
  • They can help you get from A to B faster - MUCH faster and make the journey a whole lot more enjoyable.

8. They Should Be Able to Show You First Page Rankings on Google and Yahoo. I love this one because it is here that most (not all but most) of my competitors turn green and feel weak at the knees. Search engine traffic is great! It is free and there is nothing quite like it. And… if the ONLY traffic your Internet marketing consultant can show you how to get is the paid variety, you should stop and ask them why?

I'll never forget the first time I hired an Internet marketing consultant. They guy was the 'Webmaster from Hell'

He really saw me coming and before I woke up to what was going I had wasted over $50,000 on his expensive 'expert' (But utterly useless) advice.
I wish I'd understood these eight things back then!
