Why Isn't My Website Making Sales?
Why Isn't My Website Making Sales? (c) Chris Bloor
In my business I get to meet lots of people that tell me their websites dont make sales.
Nine times out of ten, I ask them a few simple questions, take a quick look at their site and can tell them why their website would have a hard time persuading their mother to loan them a dollar for a loaf of bread if they were starving.
5 Reasons Why Your Website Probably Isn't Making The Sale (and what to do about it)
1, A Lack of Targeted Traffic. I spoke with a fellow marketer a few weeks back. The guy was really excited about a sudden spike in his website traffic, He told me he had written an article about a famous individual that was visiting Australia that month and was getting hundreds of extra unique visitors as a result.
He seemed nonplussed when I pointed out the these visitors would have no interest whatsoever in his services. They were NOT even remotely interested in his 'Target Market'
2.No Lead Conversion Systems in Place. It never ceases to amaze me how business owners will invest a fortune in lead generation and then give virtually no thought whatsoever as to the lead conversion process.
FACT: The more detailed your lead conversion systems are and the more diligent you are in following these systems - the more sales you will make.
It is absolute stupidity to spend money getting leads and then peny-pinch on your lead conversion systems!
3.One Shot Websites. I honestly believe that just having a standard brochure or even a sales letter website is no longer the wisest way to go for long-term sales success.
If you seriously want to capture your target market, why not focus on creating an 'Authority Site' for your industry?
NOTE: An authority site is a site that covers dozens of different aspects of your chosen topic (like this one)
Authority sites work because they get poeople coming back and because they help to build trust and create believability.
4. No Lead Generating Reports or Lead Capture Ezines. Take a look at my friend, Paul Wetton's site - www.AustralianVentureCapital.com Take a few minutes to watch his video. Pay close attention to the way he encourages people to sign up for his Free Newsletter.
There is a fortune in the follow up. What are YOU doing to get the details of the people that visit YOUR site?
What systems do you have in place to convert browsers into buyers?
5. Dead, Dull, Boring Sales Copy. I'm not the brightest candle on the birthday cake but I do know this - the average business website's sales copy is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
You would be well advised to take to heart the words of famous Australian Blogger (and happy client of mine) Yaro Starak who recently posed the following question to the 4,000+ Unique visitors he gets every day of the week to his Blog http://www.entrepreneurs-journey.com/793/how-to-launch-a-membership-site-part-6-prelaunch-and-launch/
"If a good copywriter can help you make an extra $10,000 in sales, would you spend $4,000 to hire them? I think so…"
Your website needs benefits-focused sales copy that makes people stop, pay attention and take action now.
1.Targeted Traffic
2.Lead Conversion Systems
3.Authority Websites
4.Lead Generating Reports/Newsletters

yes I agree. It seems I've gotten to the same line of thinking. i have a few sites and some visitors. I don't use a personal auto responder though and this feels like a waste. I have around 1,ooo leads that have visited my sites though. I need to start marketing to them with a news letter. or e-male. 5 steps. If a person can get good at those five steps. it may be the last thing he needs to be good at. Products come and go you can always get new.

I totally agree with this post. In today's market there is so much to running an online business. The first step is having a great website. Get it done by a professional!! Have the site optimized for SEO and SEM. Spend the money now on a good website and you'll thank yourself later. You will see a boost in sales. We had a client that sells health products online and he came to us in need of a website redesign. His site before looked like Fred Flinstone designed it for him. Totally stone age. He was doing pretty well for himself with just the ugly drab website he had. We took it and redeveloped it from the ground up, and his bottom line for his slowest quarter has rivaled his best ever sales. So I'd say first - Mission Accomplished, and second - Get your website done by a professional.
Great Post Chris!
