sales management outlook

Best career in finance?
Here are some that I’m considering:
Hedge fund
Actuary
Investment banking
Money management
Some of the factors that are important to me are:
work schedule and travel: I’m willing to work a lot and travel a little, just not 100 hours per week with 5 days of travel like I hear investment bankers commonly do
job outlook: especially in the recession, I need to be relatively sure I can find a job when I graduate
pay: all else equal, I would like to make as much as possible
I am willing to relocate to NY or wherever, and I’m willing to start out making little
I have an aptitude for math and good people skills; however, I would prefer a job that isn’t extremely sales intensive like financial advising
I would not really bring up your ransom demands during the interview. This is often a horrible idea. Rather than bring them up do some research and make sure none of your ransom demands are not requirements. Actually call into the company and speak with some of the reps. Do it anonymous if you like. But, it gets boring sitting around doing the same stuff all day. People love talking about their jobs.

KPMG is in NY
767 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10153, (212) 909-5000.
As is Ern & Yng
787 7th Avenue, New York, NY 10019, (212) 830-6000.
Hell so is Pricewaters
1251 Avenue of Americas, New York, NY 10020, (212) 489-8900.
You know in this country there are really 4 Fiance companies that matter. Oddly enough. . . . Ya they are where you would relocate – hmmm possibly you are a smart person
Not to mention Seidman is there
What you really want to do is be professional about this, ya know it. Rather than search the help wanted ads like joe shmuck….
Goto linkedin.com… I know you have an account there because all serious professionals do. Put those 3-4 companies in the search engine. Then click the currently employed.
Enter the titles: Manager, Recruiter or Executive…..
Read their profiles then goto pipl.com or zoominfo.com and enter their names. Learn about these people. Hell if you want do the same for the CEO and president.
Networking, networking, networking. A lot of times people do not post jobs on careerbuilders.com heck a lot more times jobs just are not posted.
Strike up conversations with these people. These people will have the purpose they are on linked in. 90% of the time they always openly link they are receptive to talk about employment to these people. Find out who the boss is for the department you will work in. Talk to him. He will know if there are any potential openings or current. Stay away from Human Resources. Honestly think about it…. HRs job is to deal with sexual harassment, pay roll, discrimination, disputes and stuff. What the heck would they know about accounting – as much as I would right?
I mean they are decent people and nice to know. But you need to find out who the people you will work with and for are. You need to find out how they hire, when they hire and why they hire. They will catch on real quick what you are doing. It is an excellent way to distinguish yourself from joe shmuck who is simply fax blasting padded resumes to every firm in the nation – it shows you actually give a crap
Are you thumbing around this place:
http://www.ifac.org/Forum_of_Firms/
You are right. It might not be directly related but it is still a good place.
Anyway, man… If they are not hiring when you contact them. Oh, ya never mail them on linked in. Get their information then call them directly – it showa a very personal touch. If they are not hiring, “Well, I am very interested in your company. I have some time on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. I was curious could we set up a brief informational interview? I really love this field and I have accomplished X, X & X. This way if a need in the future should arise we will already have some rapport.” I mean use your own words. You know the average fee a head hunter gets for placing one of you guys in $7k-14k be your own headhunter
